About Project5 - How Project5 Photocut Processor Works

What is Project5 Photocut Processor?

Vinyl graphics are still in most cases the most cost effective way of producing signs. But vinyl graphics are limited only by vector graphics that cutter can reproduce.

Project5 is an innovative bitmap tracing program that allows you to create photographic effect in vinyl using vinyl cutter only. With Project5, you can produce any duotone bitmap. Result can be applicated directly or used as mask for painting, sandblasting, etc.

Photographic effect on vinyl, called Photocut, carries all advantages of vinyl film it was made from - does not fade, easy to applicate, has long lifecycle, and so on.

How Project5 Photocut Processor Works?

Photocut Processor creates vector data from bitmap data. This special kind of bitmap tracing creates vector that looks like photograph. This vector is sent to a standard vinyl cutter, weeded and applicated on a surface like any vinyl sign. (View the sample: Photograph in vinyl)

What is Bitmap Data, Vector Data, and Bitmap Tracing?

There are two basic types of graphical computer data. These data types are very different.

  • Vector data is the general name given to computer graphics made up of lines and curves which are generated mathematically. Vector data is the only data that can be sent to vinyl cutter.
  • Bitmap data is the general name given to computer graphics made up of an array pixels (small colored squares), the arrangement of which appears as a recognizable image. Unlike vector graphics, bitmap images can be printed immediately but cannot be cut.
  • The process of vectorization (or tracing) creates lines and curves using the bitmap image as a template, the result of which is a vector based image suitable for cutting.
  • Photocut Processing is a special bitmap tracing process creating vector data that looks like photograph.

What are another benefits of Project5 Photocut Processor?

Project5 is designed specifically to meet the needs of the modern sign maker. It is true 32-bit application which runs on a standard Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 98 SE (Second Edition), Windows ME (Millenium Edition), Windows NT 4, Windows 2000, Windows XP (Home or Professional), Windows Server 2003 Family and provides a complete Photocut solution at an affordable price. It utilizes the most advanced features of the modern Win32 platforms to do top-speed Photocut processing.

Project5 contains code and interface elements that are needed to produce Photocuts only. You don't need to pay for features you never use.

Project5 is easy to use. Images created in graphics programs or downloaded from the Internet are converted to vector data recognizable by vinyl cutters. You can set a large number of parameters to customize appearance of your result.

Unlike other signmaking programs, Project5 produces realistic pictures. It was developed with the help of sign makers and especially for sign makers. Over 200 square meters of Photocut were processed during over 1 year of Project5 beta testing. It was designed to produce high-quality output.

Project5 can be integrated with drawing software such as CorelDRAW. CorelDRAW 7/8/9 Plug-ins are available.
